Gary Johnson Wins LP Presidential Nomination

Congratulations to Gary Johnson.

The former two-term Governor of New Mexico who had abandoned his quest for the GOP nod back in December, handily defeated his primary opponent, Lee Wrights, with 70% of the votes on the first ballot at today's Libertarian Party Convention.

Gov Johnson, who is the highest profile LP candidate since Ron Paul in 1988, has promised to slash federal spending by 43% while bringing about an end to both the War on Terror and the War on Drugs. Known as Governor Veto for his vetoing of 750 spending bills during his terms in New Mexico, Johnson promises to submit a balanced budget to Congress during his first year if elected.

So today the battle begins.

Step one is to raise Gary Johnson's profile and help him attain a level of support in national polls in order to be included on the debate stage with Obama and presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

The Republiocrat controlled CPD requires that in order to qualify for the debates a candidate "must garner at least 15% support across five national polls". In the most recent PPP Presidential Poll, Gary Johnson comes in at 6% against Obama and Romney but with only 25% name recognition. Johnson's high-water mark thus far was in January when he polled at 9% versus the two other major party candidates.

Please do what you can to support Gary Johnson for President. He will be the only liberty candidate on the ballot in November and is the only candidate with the experience and plan to return our government to it's Constitutionally delegated role.

  1. Chris,

Agree completely that work has to be done to raise Gary's public profile.

Working hard at that with The Delaware Libertarian.
